The Power of the Precinct Caucus
WHAT IS A PRECINCT CAUCUS?
A caucus is a grassroots meeting of community members held by political parties in each precinct, typically in late March of even-numbered years. Its purpose is to organize the precinct, elect precinct officers, and choose delegates who will represent the precinct at county conventions.
WHY ARE CAUCUSES IMPORTANT?
Caucuses are the foundation of political organizing. They allow local voters to influence which candidates and party officials will represent them. Attending a caucus gives you the opportunity to become a delegate and have a direct say in party decisions.

WHAT IS A PRECINCT DELEGATE?

  • Elect party nominees for county elections.
  • Choose county party officials.
  • Help organize their precinct for upcoming elections.

WHAT IMPACT DO DELEGATES MAKE?
Precinct delegates play a critical role in county elections and help shape party platforms and policies, reflecting community values and concerns. They vote in county elections for candidates to represent the county. State delegates vote in state convention elections for candidates to represent House Districts in the state legislature.
Conventions & Precincts Explained
WHAT IS A COUNTY CONVENTION?
A meeting where community members gather to make key decisions for their political party. The most common type is the nominating convention, held in even-numbered years, where precinct delegates select the party's candidates for the county elections. Precinct delegates are the only people who vote at convention; delegates must live in the zip code of the county council precincts that are in council district to vote in council elections.
WHAT EXACTLY IS A PRECINCT?
A precinct is the smallest political organizing unit in a geographical area. Your precinct number is usually printed on your voter registration card. Precincts are the building blocks of the caucus system. You can find your precinct here.
